The 2016 Cache Your Way program is over but the cache remains for the fun of it!
About the Site
This site is part of a bigger complex called Beck’s Woods. The Piscasaw North portion features a 0.5-mile trail along the creek used primarily by fishermen. At the end of March, the creek is stocked with trout making this a popular trout fishing stream.
Across Route 173 along Beck’s Road you can find a shelter available for rent, as well as a small group camping area (reservations required). A short trail will also lead you back to the creek for additional fishing opportunities.
Cache Your Way Question
Northern long-eared bats and Little brown bats look very similar. What is a quick diagnostic measure during mist net surveys that can distinguish between the 2?
Additional Information About the Bats
The Little brown bat hibernates during winter. During this time, the bats can withstand nearly a 122 degree Fahrenheit temperature change without suffering any damage.
Unlike most bats, the Northern long-eared bat forages along wooded hillsides and ridgelines. They forage under the forest canopy or in spaces at the edge of forests and most foraging occurs in the first two hours after sunset
