Le Moulin de Nortbécourt
Érigé en 1715, le moulin de Mentque-Nortbécourt, sur les hauteurs de Nortbécourt, est constitué d’une tour cylindrique en craie. Il débitait jadis jusqu’à 2 tonnes de céréales par jour, avant que ne cesse son activité vers la fin des années 40. Acheté en 1965 par Michel Hoyez à son dernier meunier, Alphonse Lebriez, le moulin a été aménagé au minimum pour en faire un pied-à-terre du week-end. D’ici, on aperçoit le moulin de Moringhem, celui de Saint-Martin-lez-Tatinghem et même ceux de Watten et d’Esquerdes par temps clair.
Ce moulin a été classé à l’inventaire des monuments historiques en 1975.
Depuis quelque temps, le moulin était à vendre, mais la commune de Mentque-Nortbécourt n’avait pas les moyens de le racheter. Elle a donc fait signe à la communauté d’agglomération de Saint-Omer (CASO) qui en a fait l’acquisition courant 2015.
Dans la foulée de ce rachat un projet de restauration a été initié. Seul le rez-de-chaussée sera accessible au public. Le mécanisme pour moudre le grain est encore en place. Les travaux devraient débuter en 2016. Les ailes du moulin seront réinstallées mais pas remises en fonctionnement. Le site sera consacré à un tourisme de proximité : pique-nique, randonnées…
Il sera bien fier d’être embelli quand il se montrera lors des Journées européennes des Moulins et du Patrimoine Meulier qui déroulent le troisième weekend de mai chaque année.
