Geocache Description:

GAGB Annual CITO weekend

Tania's Wood

Bickfield Lane,

Ubley

Saturday 17th September 2016 (11am to 3pm)

Tania's Wood is a narrow wood of around 2 acres on the southern slopes of the Mendip Hills (AONB) to the north of Ubley.

The wood was donated to the Mendip Society as a Local Nature Reserve by the late Glynn England in memory of his wife Tania.

Judith Tranter from the Mendip Society (who manages Slader's Leigh LNR - where geocachers have had the opportunity to learn the countryside skill of scything in previous years) would love to see this LNR visited by geocachers in the future.

However, there hasn't been any woodland management over the last few years and it is in need of a bit of TLC.  So we thought this was the perfect opportunity for geocachers to get involved and get it prepared for future visitors.

There will be the opportunity to help with several woodland management tasks which could include: coppicing, wood clearing, path restoration (details of actual tasks to be finalised).  There should even be some grass scything to do (for those that enjoyed the previous 2 years at Slader's Leigh).

Bring along a picnic lunch and drinks - and even a camping chair or rug and make a day of it.

(There aren't any facilities, but a portaloo will be available)

The GAGB

The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB) was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.

As part of it's 10th anniversary in 2013, it was decided to hold a CITO weekend in September which has now become an annual event.  There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and forums at www.gagb.org.uk    If you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.
