This is 5th in the CO’s “Go Take a Hike” series. This cache has 6 stages (including posted coordinates and the final cache) and is *not* at posted coordinates. From Stage 1 through to Stage 6 requires a roughly 1.6 mile trek up and down the beach, bluffs, and back onto a hiking trail. All stages are “virtual” stages except the final. At each stage you will find information which, after doing some minor computations, will lead you to the next stage. The tasks at each stage are given as waypoints below so be sure to have these waypoints with you as you work the cache. You will also want to have some means of keeping track of the information as you go.
Finding the information at each stage is not very difficult, but this is rated difficulty 3.5 as there are 6 stages and if there are errors in the calculations you may be sent off the route. Be sure to take the time to do the computations carefully.
All coordinates start with N34 and W118. Please re-hide the final cache well.
At Stage 1 (posted coordinates) you’ll see a sign. On one side you’ll see information on the Gray Whale. Gather this information from the sign:
A = the 2nd digit of the depth in feet that the gray whale can dive down to, according to the sign
B = the number of words in quotes at the top of the sign
C = the number of letters of the word that goes in the blank:
“… fleeing the cold northern waters and seeking out warmer ________ in Baja California …”
Stage 2 can be found at:
02.C(B+B)(A+B+1)
55.(A+2)(C+1)(A+B)
Happy Trekking!
Congrats to w01f for FTF!!!
