[lv] Ķepali ir nu jau zudusi zemnieku saimniecība Ezeres austrumu pusē. Pati Ezere atrodas tiešā Latvijas – Lietuvas robežas tuvumā. Tomēr robežupe ir nevis upe Ezere (vecākās kartēs – Ezerupe), bet gan Vadakste, kas veido krāšņo un savdabīgo robežkrastu.
Ezeres centrā atrodas 1750. gadā baltvācu dižciltīgā muižnieka Nolcken būvētā Lielezeres muiža. Muižas apbūve un parks veidots 18. gs. beigās un 19. gs. Muižas ēka vairākas reizes tikusi pārbūvēta. 20. gs 50-tajos gados veidota piebūve skolas vajadzībām.
Ar savu arhitektūru izceļas saimniecības ēkas - staļļi, kas veidoti ampīra stilā, pielietojot triumfa arku motīvus un doriskās kolonas. Padomju laikā tur ierīkotas kolhoza darbnīcas.
Parks tika veidots 19. gs. vidū, tajā sastādīti dažādu koku un krūmu stādījumi no 36 dažādām valstīm. Parka teritorijā atrodas estrāde, no kuras netālu aug "Ezeres priede" ar 1,5 metru lielu vēja slotu. Parka DR daļā atrodas dižakmens "Vadakstes valdnieks", kas ir 4,2 m augsts. Akmenī ir iekalts muižas pārvaldnieka barona Tolla uzvārds un gadskaitļi 1845. - 1855.
1945. gada 9. maijā Ezeres bijušajā muitas mājā tika parakstīts Vērmahta karaspēka grupas "Kurzeme" kapitulācijas akts. Armiju grupa kopā ar latviešu karavīriem līdz pat kara beigām noturēja neieņemtu Kurzemes cietoksni.
Mana vectēva, Kārļa Alfrēda Vorle (Karl Alfred Wöhrle) pēdējā dienesta vieta seržanta (Unteroffizier) pakāpē bija 18. Armijas 225. Kājnieku divīzijā.
Viņš krita 1944. gada 21. novembrī Otrās Kurzemes lielkaujas laikā. Kā stāsta viņa kaujas biedri, viņš tika apglabāts zem egles Ķēpalos (skat attēlu). Ja kādam ir vairāk ziņu par šo nežēlīgo laiku, es labprāt pievienošu aprakstam.

[eng] Kepati is a former farmstead east of the village Ezere in Latvia. The village Ezere located directly on the border with Lithuania. But not the river Ezere but the river Vadakstis forms the border between Latvia and Lithuania.
Centrally located in the village is the former manor Gross-Essern - is now used as a school. This property was built in 1750 by the German-Baltic noble family Nolcken.
On May 9, 1945 in Ezere the capitulation of German Army Group Courland was sined. The army group persevered here until the end of World War II in the so-called Courland Pocket.
My grandfather, Karl Alfred Wöhrle was last stationed as a sergeant in Ezere (225th Infantry Division, 18. Army). He fell on 11/21/1944 in the 2nd Kurland Battle. According to his comrades, he was buried under a fir tree in Kepati (see Picture). Who knows more about the terrible times, I may like to write.
In memory of the all fallen soldiers of all warring parties! May the region never again experience such terrible days!

[de] Kepati ist ein ehemaliges Gehöft östlich der Ortschaft Ezere in Lettland. Das Dorf Ezere liegt direkt an der Grenze zu Litauen. Aber nicht der Fluss Ezere, sondern der Fluss Vadakstis bildet den Grenzverlauf zwischen Lettland und Litauen.
Zentral im Dorf liegt der ehemalige Gutshof Gross-Essern - wird heute als Schule genutzt. Dieses Gut wurde 1750 vom deutschbaltisches Adelsgeschlecht Nolcken erbaut.
Am 9. Mai 1945 wurde in Ezere die Kapitulation der Heeresgruppe Kurland, die hier bis zum Ende des 2. Weltkrieges im sogenannten Kurland-Kessel ausharte, unterzeichnet.
Mein Großvater, Karl Alfred Wöhrle, war zuletzt als Unteroffizier in Ezere stationiert (225. Infantrie-Division). Er fiel am 21.11. 1944 in der 2. Kurlandschlacht. Laut seinen Kameraden liegt er unter einer Tanne in Kepati begraben (Bild). Wer mehr über die schrecklichen Zeiten weiß, mag mir gerne schreiben.
In Gedenken an die gefallenen Soldaten aller Kriegsparteien! Möge die Region nie wieder solche schrecklichen Tage erleben!
