Geocache Description:

This cache takes you to the northwest borders of Strathcona County on the Strathcona Riverside Nature Trail.  Discover the amazing trails that run along the river valley as part of the Capital Region River Valley Park Implementation Plan.

As the trail moves away from the river, this cache illustrates the change in vegetation communities. Along the river there was red-oiser dogwood (lovingly dubbed moose candy because of its popularity among the ungulate family) and shade-loving wildflowers like False Solomon’s Seal and Wild Lily-of-the-Valley. Along this portion of the trail, the vegetation has been more recently disturbed and so is a younger community primarily comprised of grasses with some young trees beginning to establish. How many plants can you identify?
