Cette grotte fut un ermitage et la tradition veut qu'elle ait été habité par Saint Capulan, l'un des premiers apôtres d'Auvergne. Même si le doute subsiste sur cette histoire, la grotte présente effectivement des traces anciennes d'occupation humaine. Prudence : les salles ne sont pas sécurisées, il est fortement recommandé de ne pas y pénétrer.
La légende veut que Saint Calupan, un des premiers évangélisateurs de Haute-Auvergne, ait vécu en ermitage une grande partie de sa vie à la Roche Percée. Né probablement en 526 en Haute-Auvergne, Calupan trouve vite sa vocation religieuse et intègre le monastère de Méallet près de Mauriac. Il y fit vœux de pauvreté et d'abstinence. Ces vœux l'empêchèrent de se donner aux travaux des champs, ce qui lui valut les vives reproches de ses camarades inquiets pour la richesse du monastère. Écœuré de cette mentalité, il décida de prendre le chemin de l'ermitage et de se retirer dans la grotte de la Roche Percée....

This cave was a hermitage and tradition has it that it was inhabited by Saint Capulan, one of the first apostles of Auvergne. Although doubts remain on this story, the cave actually has ancient traces of human occupation. Caution: the rooms are not secure, it is strongly recommended not to enter.
The legend says that Saint Calupan, one of the first evangelizers of Upper Auvergne, has lived in Hermitage much of his life in the site of the Roche Percee. Probably born in 526 in Upper Auvergne, Calupan quickly found his religious vocation and joined the monastery Méallet near Mauriac. He made vows of poverty and abstinence. These vows prevented him from giving the fields, earning him the reproaches of his comrades bright worried about the wealth of the monastery. Sick of this mentality, he decided to take the path of the hermitage and retreat in the cave of the Roche Percee ....
