Lebensmittelgeschäft
There are many different eating habits in Germany than here in America, so as you enjoy your treasure hunt in the parking lot of a Germany food marker enjoy these fun facts!
In Germany, like America, breakfast is quickly becoming a quick and easy meal instead of the tradition big breakfast you see in the movies. A traditional breakfast in Germany would consist of fresh bread with cheese and meat. This is still widely eaten on weekends and with a bakery on every street fresh bread is more common then packaged bread you see here.
Students do not typically eat during the school day as opposed to “lunch” we have here. Lunch is typically eaten at home but since there is such a large span between breakfast and lunch they typically eat a small snack in-between, which is encourage to prevent over eating during meal time. There are many words to describe this such as, Pausenbrot which if you translate literally means recess bread or Zweites Frühstück which means second breakfast.
Another difference is traditionally lunch is their main meal, while a warm dinner is becoming more popular. Mittagessen meaning lunch is typically eating between noon and 2 pm and is made up of a meat, typically pork or chicken, a vegetable and potatoes, rice and noodles sometimes are also side dishes.
Dinner is what we would consider a typical lunch, fresh bread, cold cuts, cheese and sometimes sausage. And of course deserts. Cake and coffee is a custom that brings families together, Gemütlichkeit which means coziness. The cakes are often homemade but if not they are typically bought fresh at a bakery.
So we hope you learned a little! This cache is a small container (a micro) in a high muggle area so use your geostealth!
Happy Geocaching!
