Geocache Description:

This cache  takes you to the Northern boundaries of Edmonton. Sturgeon County has great trails and views of the North Saskatchewan River!

This cache takes you to Lamoureux,  a hamlet  within Sturgeon County on the northern shore of the North Saskatchewan River, opposite the City of Fort Saskatchewan.River Travel. Indian canoes were used for Freighting furs. They were operated by 6 to 7 men and carried about 3000 pounds put up in pieces, each weighing about 90 pounds. They were flat bottomed to go over the shallows, but could travel as much as 6 miles an hour on quiet water. These were replaced by York boats which carried 80-90 pieces and carried the same number of men but could carry a sail.
A number of steam boats traveled the North Saskatchewan River. The “Northcote” made its first landing at Edmonton in 1874. Gold Mining
