Geocache Description:

Castle Mont Rouge is an abandoned castle located 3/4 of a mile from this cache at the end of Mountain Brook Road.  This Castle was designed and built in 2005 by American Architect Robert Mihaley.  Abandoned in 2008, rumored because of the death of his wife.  Some time after 2009 it was significantly vandalized in and out which allowed the elements to work on the interior structure.

Castle visit not recommended for small children or animals due to broken glass and construction debris.  I do not recommend entering the castle but it is a sight to behold from the exterior.  Castle and land are private property, explore at your own discretion.

Cache is located at the intersection of the road to the castle...make it an easy park and grab or take a moment to explore the area and share a photo of what you see.  Cache is not in or on the mailbox structure.

You can still find the container w/o having to drive up to see the castle. As others have mentioned, there is now a fence up and no trespassing signs. Please don't trespass. The artist is trying to finish his project and sadly (as noted) a lot of locals liked to break out windows, spray paint and otherwise ruin someone else's work. So...they have taken down some of the trees that had grown up around the castle so it can be seen from the drive. It is a rough path up to here, not for the ground dwelling cars... but it is a really neat Castle to see and legal from the drive in front of the home. I look forward to seeing it progress further!

Congratulations to Brandorff for FTF! Additional Notes: The road up the hill to the castle is bumpy but passable (I made it up with a Prius), there are homes up there. Further, from the street view in your car: You can't see the castle so unless you're planning to walk about for a second, you should skip the drive up the hill.
