ABOUT US
Welcome to our first hiden Geocache. My children and I have been geocaching since my son was 3 years old. Wherever we go we always find time to Geocache. It's become a family tradition. This one however has significant meaning as it is our first hidden cache and it is located where my children have grown up lovely Penn South. We introduced Geocaching to many of the families of Penn South/Chelsea Neighborhood and now it is a tradition most everyone in the neighborhood enjoys!
PENN SOUTH HISTORY
Welcome to Penn South aka Mutual Redevelopment Houses a limited-equity housing cooperative development located between Eighth & Nighth Avenues and West 23rd and 29th Streets, in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. The 10-building. 2,820-unit complex – every tower has 22 floors – was built in 1962, and was sponsored by the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union based on the cooperative model promoted by the United Housing Foundation. It was designed by Herman Jessor. The dedication ceremony, in May of 1962, was addressed by President John F. Kennedy with former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in attendance.
ABOUT THE CACHE
Urban caches are normally crazy small mini micros due to the nature of living in the city with millions of people...This one may be different. We decided to have a little creative fun with our first. PLEASE use great stealth as mugglers are abound. Look and you shall find. Please sign the log book and please bring your own pen to sign. Happy Caching!
PARENTS
If you're a parent geocaching with your children, Penn South is a wonderful community filled with some of the best playgrounds in the area including Pinwheel Park btwn 24th&25th St and 8th/9th Ave nestled between two of the lower Penn South double towers and Sandbox Park located to the North secretly tucked away between 26th St/28th St behind the Gristedes.
Enjoy.
