La petite rue pavée piétonne des Thermopyles, dans le quartier Plaisance, est une des promenades préférées des habitants du 14e. Son étrange dénomination n'a pas d'explication, le propriétaire de cette ancienne rue privée a probablement voulu rendre un hommage à la bataille des Thermopyles qui opposa les soldats grecs de Léonidas, roi de Sparte aux guerriers perses de Xerès en 480 avant JC. La bataille est devenu un symbole de la résistance grecque à l'envahisseur, mais elle se terminera mal pour les Spartes…
La rue est depuis quelques dizaines d'années une voie privée ouverte au public et les copropriétaires, qui ont à cœur d'embellir et de partager leur chance d'habiter un tel lieu, y plantent toute sortes de végétaux, ce qui lui donne cet aspect bucolique. Une fois par an, mi-juin, l'association "urbanisme et démocratie" organise la fête des Thermopyles avec spectacles, concerts, buvette et pique-nique partagé.
Le quartier est riche d'anciennes cités ouvrières, et à l'issue de la promenade, vous pourrez par exemple aller Allée du Château Ouvrier en tournant à droite par la rue Raymond Losserand ou aller voir non loin l'église Notre-Dame du Travail à la structure métallique étonnante.

[En] The small cobbled street of Thermopylae, in the Plaisance district, one of the favorite walks of the inhabitants of the 14th borough. This strange name has no explanation, it was given by the owner of the place, a probable homage to the Battle of Thermopylae that pitted the Greek soldiers of Leonidas, king of Sparta to Persian warriors Xeres in 480 BC. For a few decades now, the street has been a private road open to the public and the co-owners, who are keen to beautify and share their chance of living in such a place, plant all sorts of plants there, which gives them this bucolic aspect. Once a year, mid-June, the association "urbanism and democracy" organizes the "fête des Thermopyles" with shows, concerts, refreshments and a picnic shared.
The area is rich with old workers' buildings, and at the end of the walk, you can for example go Allée du Château Ouvrier by turning right by the rue Raymond Losserand or go nearby to see the church Notre-Dame du Travail at the amazing metal structure.
