Settlement of Port Noarlunga South dates from the 1850s, with land used mainly for farming. Some growth took place during the late 1800s and early 1900s when the area became popular for holiday makers. Significant development did not take place until the early post-war years, with some growth continuing until the 1960s and 1970s. The population declined slightly between 1991 and 2006, and then increased slightly between 2006 and 2011 as new dwellings were added to the area.
