A rough guess as to how long this walk will take about 6hours without caching. If you decide to collect the whole series in one - possibly 6-9 hours depending on your fitness. There are some hills in both directions but a lot of it is flat as well. You’ll be walking through private farmland that access has been negotiated. The Terrain rating is due to the length of the walk and stiles you climb over.
There are electric fences and stiles to climb over so you shouldn’t get shocked. Be aware there are Bulls, Cattle, Sheep and Turkeys around the paddocks as long as you stay on the river side of the fences you should not encounter the bulls. You might also see White Faced Herons, Eastern Rosellas, Australian Harriers (kahu), Magpies, Black Swans, Shags and Kingfishers (Kotare) 0associated with the Waikato River.
We are looking at making this series a seasonal one for summer use only but will see how the caches survive during winter as this area is prone to flooding due to heavy rain and high rivers the Waikato is known for. We have planned the caches to be above the water line so hopefully they will survive. Feedback is welcome as this is our first series we hope you all have fun getting out enjoying the walk, peaceful surroundings and nature itself. Thanks and Happy Caching
There will be a mixture of caches ranging from Nanos, Vials and Bisons to Vitamin / medicine Containers with some camouflaged. Please be careful signing and replacing logs. Bring your own pens and tott to access and sign logs.
