The Finger Lakes Geocachers ask you to set aside the date of April 23rd from 1-5 p.m. as you help beautify nature from it's long winter slumber in our first of many Rte. 14 CITO events! That's right, we have adopted 2 miles of highway and will be maintaining it regularly to do our part towards beautifying the space we live in and giving a little back to the community.
The event will start at the old park and ride close to New York State Thruway exit 42 and on the side of the Red Carpet Inn (near GC5H664 "Roll Out The Red Carpet") and proceed, in sections, along Route 14 for a span of 2 miles towards Geneva until Tin Can Alley. This is the section that the Finger Lakes Geocachers have officially adopted.
The event will start with a brief safety presentation so you will know what is expected from participants. We will be working on roadsides. This may not be the event to bring small, uncontrollable children too. We will begin by clearing around the exit and cloverleaf areas before moving our cars further down the road to another parking area. It isn't expected that you cover the entire span there and back on foot if you do not desire to.
Please keep in mind you will be dealing with garbage! The Finger Lakes Geocachers, geocaching.com, and the NYSDOT will not be held responsible for any injuries sustained during this CITO so please use common sense and a keen eye to avoid any danger. Gloves, hard hats, safety vests and trash bags will be provided. All you need bring is your able body, and perhaps and reach extender to ease the bending.
Do something great for the community AND earn a geocaching.com souvenir badge to boot, as you make new friends and beautify the world we cache in on April 23 with the Finger Lakes Geocachers!
