Although Oban is a tourist town, the harbour itself is still very much a working one. From the North Pier you can see the fishing boats and the ferries at the Railway Pier. Then you will notice the Oban Lifeboat Station and hopefully the Mora Edith MacDonald, Oban's Lifeboat. Next you will see The Northern Lighthouse Board Pier, the Board have been there since 1904 and operate two vessels from here Pharos and her smaller sister Pole Star in addition the board will host the occasional cruise ship like the Hebredean Princess, a former ferry now a luxury pocket cruise ship. The North Pier is also still a commercial pier used by a variety of working vessels, including the passenger ferry to the island of Kerrera opposite.
