La place de la République, historiquement lieu de foire, de marché, de cabarets, située à la bordure des remparts et donc hors des murs, a été créée en 1888. Aujourd'hui cette place est totalement un lieu de passage suite au diverses travaux liés au tramway .
La place de la République, historiquement lieu de foire, de marché, de cabarets, située à la bordure des remparts et donc hors des murs, a été créée en 1888. Au centre de la place se trouve le monument Sadi Carnot érigé en 1899 en mémoire du président assassiné en 1894. En effet, dès juillet 1894, le conseil municipal vote le principe d’un monument sur la nouvelle place de la République2, qui sera inauguré le 21 mai 1899 par le président Émile Loubet. Il se compose d'un pylône central auquel est adossée la statue en pied de Sadi Carnot, taillée dans un marbre blanc par Mathurin Moreau. Au sommet du pylône, une Renommée tend au-dessus de la tête du Président une couronne de lauriers. Et de chaque côté, deux figures allégoriques : L'Histoire, créée par Moreau, et La Douleur, créée par Paul Gasq, complètent la composition. L’inauguration du tramway de Dijon aura lieu le 1 et 2 septembre 2012. Dans le cadre de ce projet, la place de la République a été transformée. La société de travaux publics BIFFAGE à fournis la place et la rénovation de la statue en calcaire (Le calcaire est une roche sédimentaire composée essentiellement de carbonate de calcium) de Comblanchien. De plus , en 2010 lors des différents travaux d'aménagements , des vestiges de la porte Saint-Nicolas ont été retrouvée ainsi qu'une rigole en pierre taillé qui reliais les différents aménagements . Les murs de la porterie du XVIe s. en cours de dégagement appuyés à l'arrière contre le tronçon de courtine qui, au XVIe s., relie le nouveau bastion Saint-Nicolas à l'enceinte urbaine du Moyen Âge.

Place of the Republic, historically be fair, market, Saloon, located at the edge of the ramparts and therefore outside the walls, was created in 1888. Today this place is totally a crossing after the various work related to the tram.
Place of the Republic, historically be fair, market, Saloon, located at the edge of the ramparts and therefore outside the walls, was created in 1888. In the center of the square is the monument Sadi Carnot in 1899 memory of the assassinated president in 1894. as early as July 1894, city council approves the principle of a monument on the site of the new Republic2, to be inaugurated May 21, 1899 by President Emile Loubet. It consists of a central tower which is backed by the full-length statue of Sadi Carnot, carved in white marble by Mathurin Moreau. At the top of the pylon, Fame tends above the head of the President a laurel wreath. And on each side, two allegorical figures: History, created by Moreau, and The Pain, created by Paul Gasq, complete the composition. The inauguration of the Dijon tramway will take place on 1 and 2 September 2012. As part of this project, the Republic Square was transformed. Striking from the public works company provided the establishment and refurbishment of the limestone statue (Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of calcium carbonate) of Comblanchien. In addition, in 2010 at various refurbishments, the remains of the Saint-Nicolas were found and a carved stone trough that reliais different facilities.
