Geocache Description:

A small container hidden in the woods off of "Horton's Loop".

While hiking through this area today, I saw a number of people tromping about with their dogs. While staring at these beloved canines, it reminded me of a time when a friend asked me to dog-sit their flea-ridden pooch. That in turn, reminded me about plague, which you probably know as Bubonic plague.

Did you know that there have been 3 main Bubonic plague pandemics throughout human history? To find this cache, you're going to have to do a little bit of research on them yourself.

1) The first pandemic was known as the Justinian plague. It started in the port cities of Egypt, spreading throughout the Mediterranean, Middle East, and Europe from there. It killed approximately 50-60% of the population in these parts. In what year did this plague start in Egypt? That answer is 'A'.

2) The second pandemic you've probably heard of. It's known as the Black Death. Daniel Defoe's 'A Journal of the Plague Year' (which is an absolutely fascinating book, btw) describes this pandemic. It originated in Mongolia around 1320, and spread throughout the world over the next 130 years, killing approximately 1/3 of the earth's population. According to Ole J. Benedictow, what percent of Europe's population did the Black death destroy? This number is 'B'.

3) The third pandemic is known as the Modern Plague. It started in China in 1855, moved to India, and then found its way to San Francisco's Chinatown in 1900. It killed 12 million in China and India alone. According to the WHO, this plague ended in what year? This number is 'C'.

Cache is located at:

N37 21.(A - 11)

W079 09.(C - B - 1543)

EDIT 2/26/16 It was recently brought to my attention that the previous coordinates were wrong. I have since updated them and confirmed that the cache is still safe and sound at GZ. New coordinates will get you within 29 feet of the cache, and I obtained them with 4 satellites.
