L’hôpital des Invalides (english version below)
C’est au Rois-Soleil Louis XIV que l’on doit en 1670 la création de l’hôtel des Invalides, destiné à accueillir les soldats blessés au service du Roi. Aujourd’hui encore, le bâtiment abrite un hôpital destiné aux mutilés de guerre. Mais ce vaste édifice comprend également trois musées: le musée de l’Armée, le musée des Plans et Reliefs et le musée de l’Ordre de la Libération.
Les invalides abritent le tombeau de Napoléon 1er et de plusieurs militaires d’exception. Parmi eux, on compte quelques héros métropolitains: le maréchal Foch, le maréchal Leclerc ou le maréchal Juin.
Le dôme doit être redoré régulièrement. Une légende prétend que chaque dorure est annonciatrice d’une guerre: en 1869, la guerre de 1870; en 1937, la Deuxième Guerre mondiale; et en 1989, Bicentenaire de la Révolution française... la guerre du Golfe!

The Hospital of the Invalides
It was the Sun King Louis XIV who ordered in 1670 the construction of the Hotel of the Invalides, to shelter the hurted soldats in service of the King. Today there’s still a hospital which accomodates injureds of the war. But this huge edifice harbours also three museums: the museum of the Army, the museum of Plans-Reliefs and the museum of the Liberation.
Inside the Invalides you can find the tomb of Napoléon the first and of several important military people. For example some heros like marshal Foch, marshal Leclerc or marshal Juin.
The dome must be regilded regularly. A legend tells that every gilding is an announcement of a war: in 1869, the war of 1870; in 1937, the Second World War; and in 1989, bicentennial of the French Revolution... the Persian Gulf War!
