Charming Monroe Place is one of the few one block long streets in Brooklyn Heights. Most of the brownstones you see date back prior to the Civil War. In fact, there are remnants of the Underground Railroad in the basements connecting the brownstones right in front of you! Monroe Place is named after James Monroe - the 5th President of the U.S. It has the distinction of being the widest street in the Heights and the only one that retained the original numbering system (you'll notice that the even numbered houses on Monroe Place are on the east side of the street, whereas all the other north/south running streets have odd numbered houses on the east side). Monroe Place has been in countless movies, TV shows and commercials including Law & Order, Boardwalk Empire and most recently the Oscar nominated movie Bridge of Spies.
We're hoping you have some fun with our cache. This is totally optional, but if you'd like to we ask that you take a selfie of you and the object inside and post it when you log the cache or email to bklyngeocache@gmail.com. We're curious to see how many people from around the world find this cache, so, if you like, please list your hometown when you log the cache. Again - the photo and posting your hometown is totally optional, but we think it will make it more fun. Please note - this cache is definitely on public property. Please do not look in the front gardens of the brownstones on the block. It will be tough to find in the snow!
