Geocache Description:

There's a new geocacher in the parish! This is the first geocache in a series that will be placed in the grouped parish of St Peter's, this one fittingly within the grounds of the church itself. You are looking for a micro sized cache accessible to all abilities, no need to leave the path. Please take time to check out the beautiful historic church while you are there, it is open during the day most days.

St Peter's is an ancient parish church, dating at least from the medieval period. It is located on the site of a Roman defensive gateway.

The church has hosted the Consistory Courts of the Chancellor of the Diocese of St Davids since at least the sixteenth century and the court structure can still be seen at the back of the church. Robert Ferrar, Bishop of the diocese of St David's, was tried here in 1555, before being burned at the stake in Carmarthen's market square (now Nott Square). A coin dating from this period was found in this part of the church and is now on display.

There are some very beautiful stained glass windows, both old and more recent.

The Victorian lych gate is listed, the design is considered a good piece of later Victorian Gothic work. Fine iron gates by T. Jones and Son, Carmarthen. The builder was Thomas David, Laugharne. Further info on the church can be found in the building.

Worship is held at 8 and 10.30am on Sundays with a mixture of contemporary and traditional worship styles. Mid week Wednesday services are at 10.30am.

This cache is placed by a member of the ministry team with full knowledge and permission of the vicar. We welcome you in to enjoy the peace and beauty of this church.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no need to search around the gravestones, the cache is not there!
