L'isthme de Penthièvre...
L'isthme de Penthièvre est une petite bande de terre et de sable qui relie la presqu'île de Quiberon avec le continent.
Dit-on ISTHME OU TOMBOLO ? (c'est comme vous voulez !!!)
Un isthme est un territoire plus ou moins étroit entre deux mers ou deux golfes, qui réunit deux grandes étendues de terre.
Isthme se prononce " IS-me " où th est muet.
Le contraire des isthmes sont les détroits.
En effet, alors que les isthmes relient deux étendues de terre entre deux étendues d'eau, les détroits relient deux étendues d'eau entre deux étendues de terre, sans restriction par rapport à la taille.
L’isthme est un pont naturel.
Durant des siècles, les éléments océaniques ont déposé au fil des marées et des tempêtes, du sable, des galets et des alluvions dans l’espace qui séparait l’île du continent.
Une flèche de sable, appelée tombolo, s’est ainsi façonnée.
Ce passage incontournable pour accéder à Quiberon mesure à peine plus de 22m au niveau le moins large.
