Geocache Description:

Take a stroll through the past along a little forgotten rail line and discover some of the hidden beauty.

This small series is placed in the hope of uncovering some of the beautiful areas that are now missed with the closure of the rail including these Bridges and Tunnels

The rail line between Canberra & Cooma was closed to passenger trains in September 1988 after the bridge over Numeralla Creek was deemed unsafe, freight services along this line ceased in May 1989.

The 49km section between Queanbeyan and Michelago was reopened in April 1993 for heritage tourist operation however this was suspended in the beginning of 2007 due to storm damage.

The rail had stops in Royalla, Williamsdale, Michelago, Colinton, Bredbo, Billilingra, Chakola, Bunyan and Cooma, with bridges crossing Ingalara Creek, Bredbo & Numeralla Rivers and a tunnel under the hill at Colinton.

This cache is hidden where the old Sydney Road originally crossed the rail line, you can still see the evidence of the old bridge.

To access this cache you will need to park alongside the Monaro Highway, so please take care and watch the Geokiddies. You will need to bring your own pen to be able to claim this find.
