About SideTracked

We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many Motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users? SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Train Stations.

It is hoped this idea will spread across the country in the same way as the MMs….but if hiding one PLEASE BE SENSIBLE and remember that in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before, so, although these caches should be quick and easy grabs, PLEASE don’t place a Cache where it could cause alarm!!!

A little bit about Solihull station

The original Solihull station was opened in 1852, by the Great Western Railway on their London Paddington to Birmingham and Birkenhead main line. In the early 1930s, the line between Olton and Lapworth was quadrupled and the station was rebuilt slightly south of the original. The rebuilt station had two island platforms.

The line and station underwent significant rationalisation in the 1960s and 70s. One island platform was taken out of use when the line was reduced back to double track, the overgrown remains of the disused platform can still be seen. The station also lost its original canopies, and platform buildings, being reduced to a single platform building. Platform canopies were constructed once again in 2007-08, but not to the former GWR scale.

Until 1967 the former GWR London Paddington - Birkenhead Woodside train services passed through the station but few stopped there; these services ceased with the electrification of the former LMS line from London Euston to Birmingham New Street.

Recent investment by Chiltern Railways has seen rail times into London reduced to just one hour and 22 minutes - trains now travel to London Marylebone along the line at 100 miles per hour (160 km/h). In 2012, a new car park deck was suspended above the existing station car park to increase passenger capacity in light of the investment. As a result, car park capacity doubled to 455 car parking spaces.

Some recent renovations under the auspices of Chiltern Railways has seen the replacement of the station signage with gilt signage inspired by the that used by the Great Western Railway.

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, the journey or location, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or "copy and paste" logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.

TravelBug Etiquette: Cachers pay good money for TravelBugs and Geocoins. Please if you take a TB or GC from a cache will you ensure it is correctly logged in and out, also If you take one that still shows somewhere else please be patient before “grabbing” the item, it does not get its mileage by being grabbed and the last person to place may not have had time to log a previous find on the one you took it from. This is particularly important on busy and new caches. If you have an issue with a bug please e-mail the owner through their profile and advise them of the issue. They will be pleased to hear from you.
