Whitley Bridge railway station serves the villages of Eggborough and Whitley and is located on the Pontefract Line linking Leeds with Goole. The station operates a limited passenger service with one train per day to Goole and two per day to Leeds. Passenger services along this line have been criticised in the popular press as being a ‘Ghost Service’ where the company operate largely empty trains rather than face the bad press associated with cutting an unprofitable service.
The vast majority of trains on this line are transporting coal to the nearby Eggborough and Drax Power Stations.
