Geocache Description:

The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.

There are at least 366 burials at this active site, ranging from 1864 (although the land wasn't officially deeded over by Emily Sharp for use for a cemetery, church, and school until 1879) through present. The nearby church dates back to 1905, but no vestiges of the school remain. There is a historical marker over near the church.

This is a primarily Anglo cemetery, wherein members of the Alexander, Childer, Cosper, Dockery, Fisher, Gartman, Gore, Gould, Gower, Griggs, Haynes, Hendricks, Hoover, McDuffie, Purl, Ray, Springer, and Underwood families, among many others, are to be found. There are also some rogue McBrydes / McBrides who ended up here instead of in the family cemetery just a little bit up the highway.

As of the time of this posting, the site is in good shape. It is a fair drive to this location from the highway, but this is a public road in good repair. The "No Trespassing" signs pertain to the fenced-off properties bordering the road. Note that there are a good number of graves here that are in a kind of mound style. You don't see that too often in this part of the country. As always, any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
