**CONGRATULATIONS!**

The first known church in Hawkinge is St Michael’s, built by the Normans and situated 1.3km from the current village centre. The church has been sold in recent years and is now a private residence.
In 1876, the parishioners built a second church in Uphill, dedicated to Saint Luke, and although destroyed by fire they rebuilt it and added extensions.
When the airfield was established in Uphill at the start of WW1 the village grew larger and merged with Hawkinge. The population of Hawkinge has increased dramatically and the village now has town status.
Today St Luke's is a church of modern appearance, clearly re-constructed circa 1960's. Sadly, I cannot find any information about the date. It is conveniently situated on the main Canterbury Road next to the Health Centre and close to the primary school.
The church has given permission for the placing of this cache.
