Mark it on your calendar. The fifteenth birthday celebration of the first cache in WA is coming up in March.


WA Caching 15th Birthday Bash - Albany 2016



Fifteen years ago Lyn Pat and Nathan set WA's first cache:
GC576 Albany Quarantine - which is still going strong.



To celebrate we are hosting the fifteenth birthday celebrations in Albany on the March long weekend.


All details are for advance notice and may be subject to minor adjustments or additions.

Event headquarters:

  • All organised events will be held at the Gilcreek Scout Camp, located a short distance from the city on the banks of the King River.
  • Gilcreek Scout Camp offers basic but economically priced dorm and camping options for around 100 people. Visit the information page for details.
  • If you need a break the kettle is on all day if you want to drop in.
  • Kiddy activities for caching juniors.
  • Geocoin/travelbug display area for dropping off, discovering and retrieving.
  • Some canoes for use on the river, but please ensure your own safety and that of any children.
  • A special roymerc Birthday Bash Easy Puzzle Set. A five part set of beautifully constructed interlocked puzzles to exercise the brain.

Program:

  • Activities will go over two days, Saturday and Sunday, 5th and 6th of March.
  • Saturday 1:00 - 2:30PM: Registration and a cuppa. This is the official event, where a logbook will be available for signing.
  • Remainder of day free for caching.
  • Saturday 6:30PM: Pizza and pasta dinner, party games, competitions, photo booth, caching games. (Fee payable to attend)
  • Sunday all day: Camp open and constant cups of tea available. Drop back in and chill out.
  • Sunday afternoon: CITO event (details when event published closer to date)
  • Sunday 6:30PM: Farewell BBQ (Fee payable to attend)

Cost?

  • This is basically a free event, except for a small nominal fee charged by the Gilcreek Scout Camp for day use of the amenities.
  • Dinner on Saturday - cost to be advised on the webpage, includes vego options.
  • BBQ on Sunday - cost to be advised on the webpage, includes vego options.

Visiting Albany?

  • The scout camp has accommodation which includes the use of a fully equipped camp kitchen. Access to the kitchen will be restricted on Saturday and Sunday nights due to catering of evening meals.

  • There are two caravan parks close by. Albany has plenty of other accommodation options. Let your fingers do the walking to find the accommodation option that suits you best.
  • Plenty of caching options from hard core 4WD and mountain climbing to exploring our history and our scenery via caches near to town and in the region.
  • Visit beautiful Denmark and enjoy the tastes and sights plus experience the exquisite craftsmanship of some of the local caches including My Myst Take, regularly nominated as people's favourite cache ever.
  • Visit the oldest cache in WA - that's why we're here after all!

Attending?

  • Enter a "will attend" note for this event.
  • Let us know how many of you there will be.
  • Dinner and BBQ numbers are limited. Let us know how many will be coming to either or both meals. Once they are full - they're full.

  • Please let us know as soon as possible if circumstances change and you can no longer make it.

This is a Nature Reserve so definitely no dogs or cats allowed.
