The Agora
The name 'Agora' means a meeing place or market in ancient Greek, and the Agora of Izmir was built for Alexander the Great in around the 4th Century BC. The ruins you see today are mostly those reconstructed following an earthqauke in 178 AD in the Roman era by Marcus Aurelius, along with a little help from the current restoration programe of the Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi which is supported by Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The Agora Open Air Museum is sandwiched between the Kemeraltı bazaar, the castle and busy bustling streets of the city. There is a modest cost to get in if you wish to explore the ruins in more detail (not required to find the cache).
