Bolnica za ortopediju i rehabilitaciju "Prim. dr. Martin Horvat" smještena je na jednom od najljepših mjesta u Hrvatskoj, na poluotoku Sv. Pelagija. Zauzima površinu od 20 ha, a od Rovinja je udaljena svega 3 km.
Bolnicu je izgradila Austrija 1888. god. kao dječje lječilište. Ovdje su na liječenje i oporavak dolazila djeca iz cijele Austro-Ugarske, Njemačke, Rusije i drugih zemalja. Do mjesta za gradnju lječilišta došlo se nakon pomnih proučavanja lokacije, klime, flore i faune.
Istraživanja su pokazala da Rovinj ima najbolju mikroklimu, a odlučujuća je bila činjenica da je pošteđen epidemije malarije koja je u drugoj polovici 19. stoljeća harala Pulom i otočjem Brijuni. Kao lokacija za gradnju izabran je netaknuti prostor poluotoka Muccia, uz koji je velika pješčana plaža, koja se i danas koristi za liječenje.
Krajem 1885. je osnovano društvo za gradnju i uređenje ovog lječilišta, a na Silvestrovo se nadvojvotkinja Maria Theresia von Österreich prihvatila njegovog rukovođenja i inicijative za izgradnju. Uskoro je pokrenuta akcija za prikupljanje sredstava. Uključila se državna uprava, ali i brojne osobnosti iz bečke aristokracije pa je naručen izvedbeni projekt zgrade.
Već do 1888. je na Mucciji izgrađeno lječilište s 210 ležajeva, pa su ovdje počela dolaziti na liječenje bolesna djeca iz svih krajeva Monarhije.
Poslije 1. svjetskog rata prenamijenjena je u ortopedsku kliniku i spada među najstarije klinike u Hrvatskoj i Europi. U medicinskim postignućima ostvaruje posebne rezultate u području ortopedske kirurgije da bi 1990. god. kirurgija bila ukinuta i bolnica se orijentira na rehabilitaciju.

Die Klinik für Orthopädie und Rehabilitation "Prim. Dr. Martin Horvat" liegt an einem der schönsten Orte in Kroatien, auf der Halbinsel Heiliger Pelag. Es ist 20 Hektar breit und nur drei km von Rovinj entfernt.
Das Krankenhaus wurde von Österreich im Jahre 1888 als Kinderbehandlungszentrum gebaut. Hierhin kamen Kinder aus der ganzen Österreichisch-Ungarischen Monarchie, Deutschland, Russland und anderen Ländern, um sich zu erholen und kurieren. Nach vielen Studien des richtigen Standortes, des Klimas, der Flora und Fauna wurde der Platz für das Bauen des Seehospitzes gewählt. Die Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass Rovinj das beste Mikroklima hat, bzw. das die Stadt frei von Epidemien wie Malaria ist, die in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jhs.

Als Standort wurde die unberührte Fläche der Halbinsel Muccia gewählt, wo ein großer Sandstrand noch heute zur Kurzwecken genutzt wird. Ende 1885 wurde die Gesellschaft für Bau- und Gestaltung dieses Kurortes gegründet. Zum Silvester desselben Jahres übernahm die Erzherzogin Maria Theresia von Österreich ihre Leitung und Bauinitiative. Sehr bald wurde eine Aktion zur Geldspenden ins Leben gerufen. Die Staatsbehörden nahmen auch teil, sowie viele Persönlichkeiten des Wiener Adels, sodass das Gebäudeprojekt bestellt werden könnte.
Schon im Jahre 1888 wurde der Kurort in Muccia mit 210 Betten fertig gestellt. Kranke Kinder aus der ganzen Monarchie kamen dorthin, um sich zu kurieren.
Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg wurde es zu einer Klinik für Orthopädie umgewandelt, und heute ist es eines der ältesten Kliniken in Kroatien und Europa. Er hatte größe Erfolge in der orthopädischen Chirurgie, aber dann im Jahr 1990 wurde es als Krankenhaus für nur Rehabilitation umgewandelt.

The hospital for orthopedics and rehabilitation "Prim. Dr. Martin Horvat" is situated on one of the most beautiful places in Croatia, on the paninsula Saint Pelag. It's 20 hectares wide and only three km away from Rovinj.
The hospital has been build by Austria in 1888 as a children's treatment center. Children from across Austro-Hungary, Germany, Russia and other countries came here for treatment and rehabilitation.
The site of the resort was determined after careful studying of the location, climate, flora and fauna. Research has shown that Rovinj has the best microclimate and the crucial fact was that it had been spared from the malaria epidemic that devastated Pula and Brijuni Island in the second half of the 19th century.
The chosen construction site was the intact area of the Muccia peninsula with a big sandy beach next to it, which is still used for treatment. In the late 1885, a company was established that was going to build and arrange the resort and on New Year’s Eve, Archduchess Maria Theresa von Österreich began to manage it and launched the initiative for construction.
A fund raising campaign was launched soon afterwards. Both the state administration and numerous figures from the Viennese aristocracy became involved and the executive design of the building was commissioned. As early as 1888, a resort with 210 beds was built on Muccia and sick children from all parts of the Monarchy began to arrive.
After the First world war it has been converted into a clinic for orthopedics, and today it's one of the oldest clinics in Croatia and Europe . It gained its best success in orthopedic surgery but then in 1990 it was converted as a hospital for rehabilitation only.
