Geocache Description:

Neliels konteineris , magnētisks, ar logbook un zīmuli. ENG: small cach with logbook and pencile..

With these lyrics starts Saldus non-official anthem “Saldus Saule”(Saldus Sun). The author of the song`s lyrics is an outstanding poet who lived in Saldus – Māris Čaklais but the song`s music author is Ēriks Ķiģelis.

Māris Čaklais, the poet, was born in Saldus, June 16, 1940. Finished Saldus 1st High school.

His life’s achievements – more than 40 collections of poems also he wrote some prose, many different awards also international, and he was the editor-in-chief of several literal publications.

A lot of composers used his poetry in their songs, for example, Imants Kalniņš, Raimonds Pauls, Ēriks Ķiģelis etc. These songs have become popular with Latvian nation and will stay in Latvian music heritage forever.

A town square in Saldus for Māris Čaklais was unveiled in June 16, 2015. In the middle of the square there is a fountain “Medus piliens” (Honey Drop) modelled by Kārlis Īle. The idea of the sculpture comes from Māris Čaklais poetic comparison that Saldus is a Honey drop in Kurzeme.
