There are 1001+ places to hide a cache in the 'Parc Naturel Regional des Ballons des
Vosges'. The middle mountain region (max 1424 meter) has
perfect marked walking trails of the 'Club Vosgien'. To the east is the 'Alsace',
to the west is the 'Lorraine'. We did choose to hide the cache near
the by toerists popular town Gérardmer, not making it to difficult
for people who don't hike the mountains.
This is a cache with two 'proximity waypoints'. The first one is
502 meter from the cache on N48° 04,035' E06° 50,372' and is close
to the parking by 'Lido' where you can start a nice walk (blue
disc) which leads to the cache. The second one you have to find
yourself at 2141 meter from the cache. It's the war monument in
Gérardmer where the cars drive by all the time. Whith your GPS
software with proximity waypoints you find two cache places. One of
them is in the Lake . . .

P.S. This cache takes more than a few
hours. The walk up is only a suggestion but very nice. It's one of
the many populair family trips.

When you have a few days you can also visit the
center of Colmar. A nice old town. When you like hiking the 'Grand
Ventron' is a good option (see panorama). This peak is not
in the 'route des cretes' and can only be reached on foot.
