The cache marks the trailhead for the revitalized trail to the summit of Deer Mountain in Pittsburg, NH.
Deer Mountain is located a few miles south of the Canadian border. It is an isolated 3,000 foot peak near the Third Connecticut Lake. Seen from the eastern shore of that lake, Deer Mountain presents a profile with an indistinct southern summit and a lower but far more prominent northern summit. This lonesome peak once supported an active fire tower which is now no longer in service. Near the summit is a high-elevation bog which is frequented by moose.
The cache is a park and grab if the gate is open. If the gate is closed, park near the gate next to Route 3 and hike about .65 miles to the cache.
