During our trip through Georgia we came to a lot of intersting places! Unfortunately, there were only a few caches, but I think, some places we visited are worthy to have a geocache! During our trip through Georgia we came to a lot of intersting places! Unfortunately, there were only a few caches, but I think, some places we visited are worthy to have a geocache!
So I placed one in Ushguli, the highest living village in Europe! It´s UNESCO World Heritage. The village is about 2.410 meters above the sealevel and consits of about 70 families, but only a few of them live there the whole year!
We reached the really nice village by jeep! We went to Mestia from Sugdidi by a usual rent car. For the distance from Sugdidi to Mestia you will take 4 hours (without break)! We slept in Mestia and on the next day we took a jeep to Ushguli! The street to Ushguli is in a very terrible condition, so it´s impossible to go there by a usual car – for the distance of 48 km we needed 2,5 hours! The jeep (with driver) from Mestia to Ushguli with approxamately 6 hours stay, costs 200 Lari – the jeep has 7 seats, so if you are lucky to get a full one, you only have to pay 30 Lari! The journey to Ushguli is an adventure itself – believe me

In Ushguli we met a boy who told us that he had reached Ushguli after 3 days hiking from Mestia! We also met a guy who came by mountainbike…
In Ushguli we rent horses to go as near as possible to the Shkhara, the highest mountain in Georgia and one oft he highest Caucasian summits. It´s a glacier with 5.193 meters! It was a really nice trip, we enjoyed it very much! Renting a horse costs 50 Lari. If you need a guide, you have to pay 50 Lari more! We didnt´t take a guide, we payed one more horse for our jeep-driver and he came with us, because he has already had experiences with these horses!

To find the cache, you have to look between two big stones – When you go up the way, you will find the cache on your left hand! Look the spoiler pictures! By the way, the way will lead you to a small café, where we rent the horses!
