Le vieux fort de Mezel date du XIIIè siècle. Il appartenait à la châtellenie de Vertaizon (plus petite unité de découpage administratif au Moyen- ge) et était dirigé par l’Evêque de Clermont, Robert.
Il a été malmené par les âges puis finalement rénové. Il est toujours en travaux mais accueille un restaurant gastronomique et bientôt un hôtel.
Maintenant que vous en savez un peu plus sur notre fort, je vous propose de vous emmener sur le lieu de la cache avec ces quelques hommages au plus emblématique des forts de France, le Fort Boyard.

The old Mezel castle is dated from the 13th century. It belonged to the lordship of Vertaizon, a nearby village (lordship was the smallest administrative division unit in Middle-Age). It was led by Robert, the bishop of Clermont-Ferrand.
The castle was slowly damaged during ages and was finally restored recently. Work on it is still in progress. Nevertheless, it now hosts a gastronomic restaurant and soon a hotel.
