Geocache Description:

DLA2015 Pillow Lava.

Basaltic lava erupting underwater at mid-oceanic ridges produce Pillow Lava.
At the Corner of Highway 41 and Hunt road is a great example of these Ancient Pillows.

This location is part of the Tudor Formation and were formed around 1,280 million years ago during the Grenville Orogeny.

When molten basalt is erupted under water, it cools immediatly into large globular masses or pillow shaped formations.

Pillow basalts form in a wide range of tectonic settings.

The pillows at this location formed when ancestral North America collided with
the large landmass, that is now South America. These pillows problay originated in what is called a
Back arc rift basin.

Over time the waters receeded and through errosion the Pillow Lava at this location became exposed for you to explore.
