Matkakoski
FI: Matkakoski on yksi Tornionjoen suurimpia koskia ja se sijaitsee 37 km Torniosta ja Haaparannalta pohjoiseen. Kosken pituus on 800 m ja putouskorkeutta sillä on 10,3 m. Matkakoski on suosittu rannalta kalastuspaikka.
Tornionjoki saa alkunsa Enontekiöltä. Pohjoisen tuntureilta Pohjanlahdelle laskeva Tornion-Muonionjoki on Euroopan pisin vapaana virtaava lohijoki. Pituutta sillä on noin 450 kilometriä ja paikoin joki voi muuttua 100 metrin levyisestä koskesta jopa kilometrin levyiseksi suvannoksi. Alueella ei ole jokea likaavaa suurteollisuutta ja tutkimusten mukaan Tornionlaakson ilma on Euroopan puhtainta. Tornion-Muonionjoki on Suomen ja Ruotsin välinen rajajoki. Lohen lisäksi joessa on runsaasti meritaimenta ja harjusta.
Matkakoskella on myös nuotiopaikka ja nähtävyyksinä vanhat kala-aitat. Tie on perille saakka, mutta paikoitustilaa on rajoitetusti.
Kätkössä on muutama vaihtotavara. Jos otat jotain, jätäthän tilalle jotain vähintään yhtä arvokasta. Huom: kävyt, kuitit, vanhat liput yms. roskat eivät ole vaihtotavaroita. Olisi mukavaa, että kertoisitte loggauksessa vaihtotavaroiden sekä kätkön tilasta/kunnosta, jos huomattavaa muutosta on nähtävissä. Jos paikalla on jästejä, odotathan hiljaista hetkeä. Varokaa liukkaita kiviä ja nauttikaahan kosken kuohuista sekä kätköstä.
Matkakoski rapids
EN: Matkakoski is one of the largest rapids in the Tornionjoki. It's located 37 km from Tornio and Haparanda to the north. The rapids is 800 m long and it has a height of fall of 10,3 m. Matkakoski is popular fishing place.
Tornionjoki begins from Enontekiö. The river descending from the Northern fells to the Gulf of Bothnia and it's the longest free-flowing salmon river. It's about 450 km long and in some places it changes into a 100 m wide rapids up to a kilometer wide backwater. There are no large-scale industry, that can pollute the river. The studies suggest that the air of Tornionlaakso is cleanest in Europe. Tornio-Muonio river is the boundary river between Finland and Sweden. There is plenty of salmon, sea trout and grayling in the river.
There is also a campfire site and old buildings in Matkakoski. The road is all the way, but the parking space is limited.
There is a few exchange of goods in the cache. If you take something, please leave something same valuable. Note: pine cones, receipts, old tickets, etc. garbage is not the exchange of goods. It would be nice that you tell in your log the condition of the exchange of goods, as well as the cache, if a significant change can be seen. If there are muggles, please wait a quiet moment. Beware of slippery rocks and enjoy the rapids and the cache.
