Geocache Description:

Catch the Cache at Brown's Corners.  A simple cache where you will have no troubles, just as it is with beating the browns.

A few miles to the north at the intersection of North Rapids Road and Waldo Blvd was once a "Military Road" marker.  It was dedicated on May 21, 1932 and must have been removed in the past 20 or so years.  I do remember this monument and maybe even the tree but I am not positive.  The marker marks the Old Military Road which was completed in 1840 between Fort Howard in Green Bay and Fort Dearborn in Chicago.  The monument marked one of the earliest pioneer roads used by the Army.  The George Washington tree was dedicated at the same time--find a future Redskins cache to learn more about that.

The military road was surveyed and begun before 1836.  It followed an old Indian trail along the west shore of Lake Michigan.  By the time the first settlers in Manitowoc County had arrived, the trail was used by hunters, trappers, and traders and cut through the county north to south.  Today the trail has become Highway 42 from the Sheboygan County line to BROWNS CORNERS (WHERE YOU ARE NOW) and then Highway 141 through Manitowoc Rapids on to Green Bay.
