Oko tvrđave sv. Ivana su se 1647. vodile žestoke borbe, kad su Turci pod vodstvom Tekeli-paše pokušali osvojiti Šibenik. Tvrđava je obranila Šibenik od 20 000 turskih napadača u jednomjesečnoj opsadi grada od 17. kolovoza do 16. rujna 1647, a u tim borbama je pod Šibenikom poginulo oko 4.000 Turaka. Sustav kliješta (pojačani visoki zidani nasip) i zaštitni jarak srušeni su iza 1945. Godine.

Počela je revitalizacija tvrđave. Projekt predviđa šetnicu, trim i jogging stazu uokolo cijelog kompleksa, vidikovac i caffe/bistro s terasom. Posebno zanimljivo će biti uređenje sjevernog, izduženog dijela tvrđave poznatog kao Kliješta/Tanaja gdje bi se nalazio novi glavni sadržaj namijenjen prvenstveno djeci i mladima nazvan KID’S LAB2 koji se sastoji od povijesnog laboratorija i zelenog labirinta. KID’S LAB2 je atraktivan prostor u kojem bi se održavale kraće ili duže tematske radionice stručnog karaktera tijekom cijele godine. Zeleni labirint zamišljen je kao interaktivna igra sa zadacima.

One of the four forts that were built in Šibenik to defend themselves from the enemy's is the fortress St. Ivan or TANAJA. The draft of the fortress is made by the famous Franciscan engineer Antonio Leni from Genoa. This large and strong fortress in the floor plan has a star shape, and on the north side is enhanced by a high brick embankment in the form of pliers (ital. Tanaglia), and so it recived also other name TANAJA. Around the fortress St. Ivan the there was a big fight in 1647, when the Turks under Tekeli Pasha tried to conquer Sibenik. The fortress defended Sibenik from 20 000 Turkish invaders in the one-month siege of the city from 17 August to 16 September 1647, and in the fighting is here killed about 4,000 Turks. The system pliers (reinforced high embankment built) and a protective moat were destroyed after 1945.

Now the government started the revitalization of the fortress. The project envisages the promenade, running and jogging path around the entire complex, a lookout and a cafe / bistro with a terrace. Especially interesting will be the regulation of the North, the elongated part of the fortress known as TANAJA where should be a new main content intended primarily for children and youth called KID'S LAB2 consisting of historical laboratories and green maze. KID'S LAB2 is an attractive place where will be placed shorter or larger workshops throughout the year. Green maze conceived as an interactive game with the tasks.
