The two hills here represented landmarks used by Cattle Drivers on the Chisholm Trail. As they came out of the Red River valley they could see these two hills and used them to drive the cattle north to this location. Originally known as Lookout Point, they became known as Monument Hills. The Chisholm Trail and millions of Longhorns, went just to the east of this hill marked by this monument. The Chishom Trail was used from 1867 to 1889.
The monument itself was built by the WPA in 1937. The granite markers were added in 1990's and repaired as part of Oklahoma's 100 year celebration in 1907. In the southeast corner of this site is the grave of Tom Lattimore a Chisholm Trail Cattle driver.
