The area can be recognized easily even from the distance. The shape of the two antennas gave the nickname „Mickey Mouse Mountain“ to this mountain. This radar unit has been part of the US Air Force Base. It was used for the NATO air surveillance.
You can reach this sport coming from the village Gouves. A twisting road is partly guiding you up steeply – already approaching is a special experience.
This great place got my attention during vacation in Crete in 2013. At that time the Cache GC2DJPW was hidden up here but it got archived at the end of 2014. This little box shall become its successor in hope that lots of Geocachers are going to visit this place in the future.

Das Gelände ist bereits aus der Ferne gut zu erkennen. Die Formgebung der beiden Antennen hat dem Berg den Spitznamen „Mickey Mouse Mountain“ verliehen. Die Radaranlage war Teil der US Air Force Base. Von 1979 bis 1993 diente sie der NATO-Luftraumüberwachung.
Den Cache erreicht ihr vom Ort Gouves aus. Von dort geht es über eine Serpentinenstraße mitunter steil bergauf - schon alleine die Anfahrt ist ein Erlebnis.
Auf dieses besondere Fleckchen bin ich während meines Urlaubs auf Kreta im Jahr 2013 aufmerksam geworden. Damals war hier oben der Cache GC2DJPW versteckt, welcher Ende 2014 leider archiviert wurde. Diese Dose soll nun seine Nachfolge antreten, in der Hoffnung, dass noch viele Geocacher diesen Ort besuchen werden.
