The location:
Laguna de los Tres makes out an 8 hours round trip from El Chalten, Argentina's Trekking Capital about 220 km north of El Calafate. There are outstanding views of the Fitz Roy range along the way. The trail ends at the cobalt-blue Laguna de los Tres, at the base of Cerro Fitz Roy. The last 1.5 kilometers of this hike are very steep and exposed, and as a result some hikers choose to overnight at the nearby Campamento Poincenot prior to climbing the last, difficult stretch, though its absolutely possible to do the whole trek form town.
There is a camp site half way (Camping Laguna Capri) and another one just before you start climbing the last stretch (Camping Poincenot).
The climb is steep and exhausting! Take enough water and food! Wear firm, good walking shoes! Take a sweater and a rain coat, it can be could up there. No food available underway.
Background:
I happen to travel quite a bit to all parts of the world. My daughter was born in 2005. She is still too young to travel with me, therefor I decided to hide caches especially for her in all countries I visit. The caches contain some objects she likes, some photos and a personal message. One day she will be old enough to travel on her own, and maybe she'll have fun finding the "treasures" her old man left behind for her.
The cache:
This cache is a red cylindrical plastic container. It holds a logbook, a pencil, and a few items for exchange. There is also a sealed plastic bag clearly labeled "NOT FOR TRADE". This bag contains personal items for my daughter. Please leave its content as is. Do not take or add anything. Thanks!
However, you are invited to leave your name and some thought in the logbook, and to take one of the exchangeable items, and leave something for my daughter.
Once you get to the site, enjoy the splendid view over Laguna de los Tres and Cerro Fitz Roy peak. You should have not too much trouble finding the cache under a big rock at your right side (when facing the lake).
Muggles:
The mirador is a heavily visited area. If you find yourself not alone while near the cache, please make sure to be discreet.
Maintenance Plan:
For traveling reasons I regularly come here. These visits allow me to maintain the cache on a regular basis. Please inform me if you notice any problem, e.g. if the container got damaged or a new logbook is needed. I'll take care of it asap.
