Quelle merveilleuse idée de cache!! Sur un carrefour et en façe d'un supermarché!

C'est ici même que fût créé en 1960 le tout premier Supermarché Carrefour. Le nom de ce supermarché vient tout simplement qu'il était situé à un carrefour!

En 1959, Marcel Fournier, propriétaire de la mercerie familiale (au 42 rue Vaugelas) décide d'y développer son activité... et court-circuite par la même occasion les plans d'expansion d'Edouard Leclerc (qui projetai à priori de s'implanter sur Annecy). Dès janvier 1960, il ouvre une épicerie dans le sous-sol de sa mercerie et s'approvisionne auprès de la maison de gros Badin-Defforey. Il se fait alors livrer les produits par une petite trappe s'ouvrant directement sur le trottoir!

Les 160 m2 du sous-sol deviennent rapidement trop étroits pour faire face à la demande et les trois associés Fournier/Badin-Defforet décident de construire "plus grand".

Le premier supermarché Carrefour ouvre le 3 juin 1960, mais l’inauguration officielle a lieu le lendemain. A Annecy, Marcel Fournier (cofondateur de Carrefour) est un peu considéré comme un original. Mais c’est aussi un ancien résistant, un commerçant respecté et un notable influent. Tout le gratin d’Annecy a fait le déplacement pour découvrir son dernier coup de poker.
La foule fait la queue sur le trottoir, avant même l’ouverture. Carrefour a promis des cadeaux aux 5 000 premiers clients. Ils seront plus de 15 000 à franchir les portes du magasin en deux jours. Les 120 chariots prévus initialement ne suffisent pas. Il faut rapidement en doubler le nombre. Le succès est phénoménal. Quatre jours après son ouverture, le magasin doit être fermé.
En fin de semaine, les artères desservant le magasin sont littéralement bouchées par des embouteillages. Le parking ne dispose que de… vingt places. Pressé par la mairie, Marcel Fournier finira par racheter un terrain tout proche pour y construire un parking de 120 places. Aujourd’hui encore, il faut traverser la rue pour se rendre du petit parking au supermarché du Parmelan.

In 1959 Marcel Fournier, owner of the family haberdashery (at 42 rue Vaugelas) decides to expand its business ... and bypasses the same time the expansion plans of Edouard Leclerc (who wanted to install is supermarket in Annecy). By January 1960, he opened a grocery store in the basement of his haberdashery and supplies from the wholesale house-Badin Defforey. It is then deliver the products through a small door opening directly on the sidewalk!

The 160 m2 of basement quickly become too small to cope with the demand and the three associated Fournier / Badin-Defforet decide to build "bigger".

But it is also a former resistance fighter, a respected merchant and a notable influence. All Annecy gratin made the trip to discover his latest gamble.
The crowd stood in line on the sidewalk before the opening. Carrefour has promised gifts to the first 5000 customers. They will be more than 15 000 to pass through the gates of the store in two days. The 120 trucks initially planned not enough. We must quickly double the number. The success is phenomenal. Four days after its opening, the store must be closed.
At the end of week, the arteries serving the store where literally clogged with traffic. The car park has only ... twenty places. Pressed by the town hall, Marcel Fournier eventually redeem a nearby land to build parking for 120 cars. Today, you have to cross the street to the small parking lot at the supermarket Parmelan.
