Church History

This Place of Worship was founded in 1730. This church's congregation formed in 1723, originally to include Particular and General Baptists, but was reorganised in 1812 on Calvinistic principles. Its first meeting house was registered in 1734. "A link with Seventh-day Baptists is also apparent in the appointment of William HITCHMAN of Natton as pastor in 1761, and in a donation received in 1766 for 'Sabbatarian Ministers' from the Mill Yard church in London".

The present structure dates to a rebuilding in 1823. Several interesting monuments in its interior survive from the earlier building, including "John Boulton of Killcott, 1795, reputedly a highwayman, with several cautionary texts, concluding 'All that's ever got by Thieving Turns to Sorrow, Shame and Pain. Dr. Watts'", and "Samuel Chappel, 1766, 'who died by the overturning of the Stage Coach at Faringdon, Berks.', and Ann his second wife, 1747".
