Gerold historisch

Der junge Ritter Gerold "im Turm" zu Guntraun (Rabland) liebte die tugendsame Bauerstochter Hedwig am Steinerhof (Heute Hanswirt). Zum großen Ärger der ahnenstolzen Verwandten, besonders seines Oheims Kuno von Hochnaturns, heiratete er sie sogar und verlebte Tage des ungetrübtesten Familienglückes an ihrer Seite. Da ging der Aufruf zum fünften Kreuzzug durch das Land, und Gerold wurde aufgefordert, das Kreuz zu nehmen und mit Friedrich 11. in das Heilige Land zu ziehen. Freudig folgte er diesem Rufe der Ritterpflicht, wie viele andere Edle Tirols, nahm von Hedwig Abschied und zog in die Ferne, wo er aber bald im Kampfe fiel. Kuno von Hochnaturns maßte sich nun die Vormundschaft über Hedwig und ihren Sohn Konradin an und ließ seinem lang verbissenen Ingrimm freien Lauf. Er sperrte die arme Witwe in einen Turm, wo er sie auf jede mögliche Weise quälte, bis endlich die Schwergeprüfte den Leiden unterlag. Den Knaben sandte er nach Schnals, ließ ihn dort als Bauernburschen erziehen und kaufte ihm später einen Hof.

Il giovane cavaliere Gerold "nella torre" per Guntraun (Rabland) amava la figlia del contadino virtuoso Edvige su Steinerhof. Con grande disappunto dei parenti orgogliosi indovinato, in particolare lo zio Kuno von Hochnaturns, la sposò e anche ha trascorso giornate serene di famiglia assieme alla sua moglie.
