Currency Creek enters the Hawkesbury River approximately 800 metres north-east from this location just along Tizzana Road. Chain of Ponds Creek and Howes Creek are additional creeks which feed into Currency Creek, with the headwaters extending all the way up to Freemans Reach, Tennyson and East Kurrajong. In times of flood this whole valley becomes one big floodplain and becomes a haven for the local birdlife.
When travelling up West Portland Road to the next cache location in the series, take a look up the Currency Creek floodplain and you will notice the historic Stannix Park homestead in the distance. The homestead is located on a small sandstone peninsula which is rounded by the flood plains of both Currency Creek and Howe's Creek. Built in 1839 by settler William Hall, the two storey stone farm house has a useable attic and single storey rear skillion
