Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the SideTracked series.

About SideTracked: These are Cache and Dashes for public transport users, which can be found at or near train stations, ex-train stations such as this one or near miniature railways.

Cheadle CLC station was just off Manchester Road a short walk from Cheadle town centre – now it’s the Cheshire Lines Tavern Pub (ex The Station). The station was opened in 1866 and called Cheadle until 1950, then North Cheadle. It was a victim of the Beeching cuts, closing in 1964. CLC is Cheshire Lines Committee which also controlled a lot of Lancashire railways and had 143 miles of track.

Further information on the station is given in the excellent Disused Stations web site which has a map of the site and old photographs

More on the Cheshire Lines Committee can be found here and here

The line is still in use - the Gallery has a photo of Oliver Cromwell heading towards the Station

Congratulations to ASW on FTF and DD's on a close STF. Thanks to Royal Oak for publishing on what looked like a busy Easter for publications

If you're in the middle of the road, go east, try N 53° 24.190 W 002° 13.022

I've just discovered that there used to be a SideTracked here. It has much more information: GC1F4PG
