Geocache Description:

Located near the  famous Toccoa Falls in Stephens County Georgia, this mini falls has charm of its own. In fact there are two  "water falls" at this location. The second relates to the way water entered the Old Toccoa Falls Power Plant from the old Kelly Barnes Dam. Take a look Behind the Scenes and be amazed!.

Please don't climb the falls itself or disturb the vegetation around the the falls. The cache is a lock and lock. Use caution when retrieving, and please keep the area as natural as when you found it.  
 
Historical Context 
 
Kelly Barnes Dam, was built in 1899 by E. Palmer Simpson of Toccoa. Originally a rock crib dam, it was later converted to earthen embankment dam in 1933. The Old Toccoa Falls Power plant received the water by pipe from the dam on the hill above, and spun it through the 200 kilowatt (266 horsepower) generator, which then distributed power to the old switchboard.   
 
The dam serviced the water supply, creating electricity for the town of Toccoa from 1899 - 1933. It was given to the Toccoa Falls Institute in 1933, by the Georgia Power Company, who had purchased it in 1927. After the conversion of the dam, it serviced the Institute exclusively until 1957.
