Geocache Description:

The Wharton County Museum is a real gem in SE Texas and considered one of the best county history museums in Texas. Located in Wharton, Texas, the museum captures the history of the county and region in photographs, artifacts, and displays.

Significant exhibits include the home that Veteran CBS Newscaster Dan Rather lived in as a child and is located on the property. There is an extensive display of the works and history on Wharton born play write Horton Foote (To Kill a Mockingbird). Vietnam veteran Medal of Honor recipient Roy Benavidez is highlighted as well. There is a great old doll collection and a special “animal” collection for the children.

A new addition to the facility is the 29th Century Technology Museum. This is a wonderful little museum with great displays and exciting exhibits for young and old.
