Geocache Description:

Ok so it seems the rock one the first round with the latest storms, but the tree is still alive! So there is a chance the second generation will take its place and cover the rock once again. This cache is for the more adventurous folk that showcases the whole of Tahmoor Gorge. It is a fair bit of a hike but can be found with the other caches in the area if you take the Tahmoor Canyon Gorge trail.

Tahmoor Gorge is the local swimming hot spot which includes the famous Mermaid Pools. This cache aims to showcase the whole of the Tahmoor Gorge by going down all the way along the water. If planning to do all of the caches in the area I would set aside the entire afternoon or the whole day if you want a swim as a reward afterwards.

Note it is not for the faint of heart as it is a fair bit of a hike, with a river crossing and steep slopes to get in and back out again. Forget about boot camp just do this for your weekly workout! Proper foot ware is essential for this cache. Also it is not recommended to do this cache after a heavy rainfall because parts of the track may be flooded and the rocks slippery. As an idea I trialed the track a week after a heavy rainfall session and the river crossings were still a bit shady.

Parking can be found at the end of a dirt road near Charles Point Rd that leads right up to the Rockford Rd Bridge.

Make sure you stick to the track as there are no fences from the sheer drop down and can easily get lost. There has been a recent instalment of maps above the gorge for the lookouts, however, heading down into the gorge the maps are replaced by neon tape around trees and yellow painted markings on rocks to help guide your way.

There is a slight chance for snake’s sunbaking in the search area have recently sighted a 1.5m red belly but scared easily. There have also been sightings of Lace Monitors, Lyrebirds and Black Cockatoos.

I have yet to trial this cache with any geokids or geodogs (owning neither of these) but I would not rule it out, I’ll leave it up to your discretion. Instead I would just insist on extra caution to be taken if planning to bring along any of these.

The cache itself is a small flat camo sistema container. All I ask is to leave the additional ‘bonus’ hidden inside. This is my first cache so if there is anything that I missed or needs changing please let me know and I’ll get right onto it.
